Information about Great Beginnings

The Parent/Tot class offers Montessori lessons with a clear beginning, middle and ending for children to work on during class. Our goal is to continue to foster independence, to help develop order and concentration skills, as well as help them learn to work with an activity to completion and then put it away. This, of course, takes practice and that is “the training” part of the class. The parents are given guidelines to follow before their first day which helps the child with their parent be successful. Parents also learn what kinds of materials children work with in a Montessori environment. Parents often get ideas for their home environment as well. 

The work time goes for the first 45 min. and then the children help set up for snack time. Some may be learning how to use a spoon or drink from a cup for the first time or learning how to set the table and clean up after themselves - these are all important first lessons in the Practical Life area. After snack, we will have a little music time - instruments and listening to music, scarves etc…I do this based on the children’s interest. Then they will get to go outside (weather permitting) for the last 15 min.
